About the Instructor
Hello Friends. . . My name is
Pat Scharmen. I am a native of the Florida Panhandle. this picture is of myself and my wife of over 33 yrs (Wanda). For
25 years I made a living as an engineer. However, I have always been involved in the arts, participating in the music programs
in high school, college, and while in the military performing with the 98th Army Band. I have been dancing for 11 years opening
my own studio (Step by Step Ballroom) in 2005.
Known by some as the engineer that learned how to
dance, I began dancing in 2002 and started formal instruction as a "dance instructor" in 2003. I have been trained
by and danced with professionals both on the Florida panhandle and from out of state. I received instruction and training
from nationally recognized dancers and/or instructors such as Ron Montez, Jim and Janell Maurantz, Bob Powers & Julia
Gorchachova, and Diane Jarmalov (owner and founder of the Ballroom Dance Teachers College in Oakland, CA).
As a skilled
dance instructor, My purpose is to "Make my students at ease on the dance floor". I offer instruction in all of the American Ballroom Dances. Most popular of these are the Waltz, Foxtrot, Swing, Rumba, Cha
Cha, and Mambo. In addition, I offer instruction in International Rumba, Night Club 2 Step, Hustle, and the Salsa.
I have received numerous certifications from the National Dance Council of America (NDCA) and continue my own training and certifications in order to ensure that I bring quality dance instruction to all of my students.
